The city of Maryville Water & Sewer Department will have South Ruth Street closed to through traffic from Oak Park Avenue to Melvin Avenue all day Monday, June 27, 2022. Crews will be working to lay a new sewer main. Please use caution in the area. AT&T continues its ongoing fiber optic cable installation through Maryville and will be working in two neighborhoods off Brown School Road over the next few months. Upon the completion of this part of the project, these locations will have access to a high speed internet connection.
To accomplish this project AT&T and sub-contractor Star Construction will have to bore underneath the roadway to lay the fiber. The boring process involves digging an entry pit along the side of the roadway so that the boring machine has access underneath the roadway as shown in the figure below. AT&T and Star Construction are responsible to fix any damage caused during the construction of this project, restoring the property as closely as possible back to its previous condition. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is requesting all customers to voluntarily curtail any non-essential electric loads effective today, June 22, from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. tonight.
Currently, our area is forecasting some of the hottest temperatures this season, which will lead to higher energy demands from the surrounding areas. As part of the TVA’s Emergency Load Curtailment Program (ELCP), TVA is implementing Steps 10 and 20 of their program which aims to proactively maintain a stable and reliable power grid during peak hours as this week’s temperatures approach record-setting highs. The demand during the peak hours of 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. can lead to higher electric bills for residents and businesses. This implementation may incorporate steps in residences and businesses that include reducing lighting during the day, adjusting A/C thermostats when not home or in parts of the residence that is not routinely occupied, and unplugging devices or appliances not frequently used. Please be aware that these steps will likely be in effect for Thursday, June 23, and Friday, June 24, as well. The city of Maryville Water and Sewer Department will close Oak Park Avenue from South Magnolia Street to South Ruth Street and South Ruth Street from Oak Park Avenue to Melvin Avenue. This closure will be in effect today, Tuesday, June 21 until approximately 2 p.m. Crews will be laying a new sewer main.

A gas line leak on East Broadway Ave. near Marion St. is causing a temporary road closure. Fire Department personnel and Atmos Gas Company are on scene to ensure repairs are made and the area is safe. We expect the road to be reopened soon. The city of Maryville Water and Sewer Department will close Oak Park Avenue from South Magnolia Street to South Ruth Street today, Friday, June 10. This closure will remain in effect through the end of June while crews work to replace a sewer main. Residents will have access to their homes during this closure. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and use extreme caution as workers will be present.
The city of Maryville Water and Sewer Department will have South Magnolia Street closed from White Avenue to Mountain View Avenue all day today, Thursday, June 9. Crews will be working on the sewer line.
