The City of Maryville Wastewater Treatment Plant is offering free compost to individuals for personal use on a first-come, first-served basis. The compost is an organic material made from wastewater solids, called biosolids. Biosolids are a byproduct of the wastewater treatment process. These waste materials are broken down by micro-organisms, excess water is drained and the solid material that remains is heat-treated to remove pathogens. The biosolids are then mixed with wood chips in a composting process resulting in a rich soil amendment product.
Compost will be available for pickup on Saturday, July 9, 2022, from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Maryville Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant, 4541 Wheeler Road, Louisville, TN 37777. As the July 4 holiday approaches, the City is reminding residents of the ordinances related to using fireworks in the city limits. Fireworks can only be used during two periods each year. The first on July 3 and 4. The other on December 31 and January 1. For July 3 and 4, fireworks can only be used from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Residents who wish to discharge fireworks must ensure they are used during the approved times.
As a reminder, fireworks (igniting, firing, exploding, discharging) must be used entirely on private property. The use of fireworks on all public streets, roadways, public alleys, sidewalks, parks, public parking lots, and public property within the City of Maryville is prohibited.
