City's ISO Rating Improved - May Lower Insurance Rates for City Residents, Industries and Businesses3/1/2018 Tony Crisp, Maryville Public Safety Director announced the city of Maryville has been designated with a Class 2/2x rating by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) effective March 1, 2018. This new rating could improve insurance rates for its residents, industries and businesses. The City of Maryville is one of only 28 cities in Tennessee with a Class 2 rating.*
This is the latest of improved designations for the city, which obtained a Class 3 rating in 1996. Before that, the rating was Class 5. The scale ranges from 1 – 10 with one being best. The process of rating cities includes an on-site inspection of facilities, records, training and equipment. The city’s water system accounts for 40% of the score while fire department facilities, equipment and personnel account for 50% and the emergency communications operations (911) accounts for the remaining 10%. Once the inspection is complete, the information is reviewed by the ISO for a final determination on rating. For information about how this might affect insurance rates, Crisp advises individuals, industries and businesses to contact their insurance agency after the March 1 to learn about any cost savings associated with the new rating. Crisp said, “We are very proud of this new ISO rating and want to thank all the City departments, staff and officials who continuously work together to achieve this high standard. We hope this lower rating will further provide peace of mind to residents, businesses and industries that we are ready and able to serve during a fire emergency.” For more information about the rating or fire safety services, contact the Maryville Fire Department at 865-273-3675. *ISO Mitigation website You can read more about this new rating in the article written by Daily Times reporter Lesli Bales-Sherrod.
