Crews will make one final pass through all neighborhoods without observing zone times for this last collection. All leaves in all zones should be at the curb at this time. Leaves should be placed in your front yard, not in a ditch or near the drainage system, as this could clog up your storm drain.
9:58 a.m. update
Everett High Rd is now open and passable. 9:00 a.m. update Sevierville, Broadway, Montvale, 321 and most of the main roads are good to drive on. Secondary roads are still slick. The sun and rising temperatures will help assist crews over the next few hours as they work the secondary streets. Everett High Rd is still bad now due to the steep hill. It is closed on the end closest to Broadway. Residential garbage is behind but leave cans out and crews will get them as soon as possible. Recycling Centers will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 27 - 7:00 a.m. Traffic advisory in effect - road conditions still remain unsafe for travel. Main roads continue to be problematic as crews continue to work to melt the snow. Secondary roads have not been treated. Public safety personnel recommend not traveling unless absolutely necessary. If travel is necessary, allow plenty of time, drive slowly and be prepared with emergency supplies. Officers are responding to emergency traffic. For minor accidents and issues, please exchange information, take photos, and call the police department this morning to obtain a report. City of Maryville offices are on a two-hour delay - opening at 10 a.m. to the public. A note about this snow event: In this type of snow, when plowed, a layer of snow remains which immediately freezes due to the frozen ground. Salted, it will melt for a period of time, but then will refreeze - again due to the frozen ground. Trucks continue to work the main roads. Temperatures and the sun will have to rise for conditions to improve. Monday, December 26 -11:42 p.m. Traffic advisory in effect - road conditions are unsafe for travel. City of Maryville offices will be on a two-hour delay for the public. Update 11:21 p.m. Road crew veterans say this is a rare event - a one-in-twenty-year type of snow that will halt the roadway system until snowfall stops and temperatures increase above freezing. Sevierville road is a solid sheet of ice after five hours of working it with salt trucks and snow plows (which they are able to use now after 1" of accumulation with shoes removed to get metal straight on the surface). Our crews will continue working through the night just to keep the main roads passable. The locals and minor roads and streets will be unsafe for travel in the morning and we urge residents to stay off the roads until conditions improve. City of Maryville offices will be on a two-hour delay opening to the public. Previous Traffic Advisory: Dry, low moisture snow is causing treacherous conditions on roadways as the snow melts and refreezes. Engineering and Public Works crews have been working since 5 p.m. - adding salt brine to the roads. Plows are not an option with this type of snow - the snow would just be turned to ice. Continuous snowfall is requiring crews to continually work the main arterial roads to keep them passable. Residential streets, locals and minor streets will not be able to be treated for some time. Due to the high amounts of traffic and quick accumulation, numerous accidents now have officers responding to emergency traffic only. Police advise if you are in a minor accident, take photos with your cell phone, swap insurance and contact information and call the police department in the morning to get a report. Roads are not safe for travel at this time. We urge you to stay in and off the roads until conditions improve. Update - 8 p.m.
