City of Maryville Public Works will close Best Street between the entrance to Sandy Springs Park and Montvale Station on Tuesday, October 11 from 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. to install a new sewer connection across Best Street. A signed detour will be in effect through the Sandy Springs Park lot.
This work may take up to three days to complete depending on weather. Essential Functions of the Grounds Maintenance Worker:
• Performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance of the City property, highways, and rights-of-way. • Operates various vehicles and equipment including dump truck with leaf loader, commercial mowers, tractors, bush hogs, backhoe, bobcat, bucket truck, boom tractor, garbage truck, snowplow, etc. • Cuts and trims trees throughout parks and roadways. • Maintains parks. • Performs equipment maintenance on mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, etc. • Handles maintenance work on water fountains, water lines, irrigation, toilets, and various buildings throughout the city. • Maintains flower beds. • Clears walkways and trails of leaves, debris, etc.; performs ice and snow removal from sidewalks. • Sets up, works, tears down and cleans up during City sponsored special events including trash removal, trail closures, temporary fence construction, temporary floor and lighting, crowd control, road closures, etc. • Sets up work zones, construction zones, and safety zones, on highways, rights-of-way, parks, alley ways, and City streets including flagging traffic and lane closures. • Serves as temporary crew leader during leaf collection season; oversees temporary workers. Update: Road will be open to College Street (previously published to be closed at Court Street) Ellis Avenue has been closed due to a sinkhole that developed Tuesday evening. At this time, eastbound traffic on Ellis will need to detour at College Street. Westbound traffic from Washington Street will need to find an alternate route. Local traffic (business parking lots) will still remain accessible as long as the road is safe to pass. Crews will be monitoring the situation and changes to the traffic plan may be necessary. Work to find the issue, make repairs, and reopen the road may take several days. We will continue to post updates as they are available. City of Maryville is looking for a Part time general worker at the Maryville Alcoa Animal Rescue Center. Duties include feeding animals, walking dogs in all weather conditions, cleaning dog and cat kennels, and general cleaning of the facility. Must be available to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays. A high school diploma / GED and valid driver’s license are required. Pay rate is $14.00 per hour. The section of Harper Avenue from Cusick Street to College Street is closed due to safety concerns related to a building renovation in that area.
Motorists will be detoured via Cusick and Broadway. Businesses with deliveries will be able to receive deliveries but no parking will be permitted in the area. Due to the complexity of the issue and engineering requirements, the length of time is estimated at two weeks. We will post more information as it is available. The City of Maryville Electric Department will have Manning Lane closed from Old Knoxville Hwy. to Wayne Circle today, Friday, September 9. Crews will be trimming trees near the power lines until approximately 2:30 p.m.

Wednesday, September 7, 2022 Court Street will be closed from Hwy. 321 to Boardman Ave. for several hours while City crews work to fix a sink hole. Traffic will be detoured to Montvale Road until approximately 3 p.m. today. |
